  3. Report to Luciane.
Journal
  1. Guildmaster Luciane is having a heated discussion with Silvairre. Perhaps you should intervene.
  2. Silvairre reveals that he has discovered the whereabouts of Pawah Mujuuk, before rushing off alone to apprehend her. Follow him to the South Shroud and see that he comes to no harm.
  3. You find Silvairre surrounded by the bodies of an unknown gang of poachers, exhausted but unharmed. After you dispatch a pursuing party of assailants, the Elezen explains his plan to lure Pawah out of hiding. Make your way to the specified clearing and use the bone whistle Silvairre has given you to summon Pawah and her gang.
  4. After a fierce battle, the three of you successfully subdue Pawah and consign her infamous gang to history. Return to the Archers' Guild and share the tale of your triumph with Luciane.
  5. Luciane is glad of your safe return, and proud to have such a dedicated and compassionate adventurer in her ranks. By way of thanks for your continued contribution to the guild, she teaches you a new technique: Windbite. Though the road to mastery is long and easily lost, Luciane is confident that you will find your way.

Title reference The title is the saying 'the one that got away', most often said of a lost love. Pawah is the poacher who once slipped away from Silvairre, and here she even flirts with him.

What you know from earlier quests 6

    • #68 Violators Will Be Shot: Leih protests to Luciane that Silvairre sent you into the enemy's jaws, hoping you would not come back. She is angry that he called your success pure luck.
    • #88 To Catch a Poacher: Leih quarrels with Silvairre when he calls her a savage. She notices the old bottles smell of fresh mead. She goes after Pawah Mujuuk alone and loses, and Pawah mocks her as "sister" and a Keeper.
    • #137 Homecoming: Leih lost her village and family in the Calamity, a great disaster. She means to join Pawah and her own people, the Keepers of the Moon, but stops Pawah from shooting you. After you fight her, she sees the guild as her new family.

    • #88 To Catch a Poacher: Silvairre calls Leih a savage and shares what he knows of Pawah Mujuuk. He links the mead bottles to Buscarron's old lookout post, Buscarron's Scar. In the ambush he fights beside you and urges you to work together.

  • Pawah Mujuuk: Pawah answers the bone whistle and mocks Silvairre as a gallant admirer. She fights with her gang, using oiled arrows. You, Silvairre and Leih defeat her and end her gang, and Silvairre takes charge of her.

...Some blokes just can't take a hint.

Summon Pawah Mujuuk's gang.

Pawah Mujuuk

No, no, sir...'tis most flatterin'.

Wouldn't ye agree, sisters!? Why don't we show our gallant Wildwood admirer an' his mates just how much we appreciate their attentions!?

  • FR Rebonjourrr, les chatons. ‘Hello again, kittens.’ English has Pawah rally her "sisters"; French has her greet her foes as "kittens".
‘You little kittens, come along too.’ English has Pawah rally her "sisters"; Japanese has her invite her foes, the "kittens".

I hope ye like it rough, darlin'!

Brought friends, did ye!? Then ye won't have to die alone!

Careful, these ones are feisty!

Gridanian bastards! How dare you attack our people!

Leih Aliapoh

If you want him, come and claim him!

Ugh... Protect Silvairre... I'll be fine...

‘Sorry... I have only... got in your way...’ English has Leih urge you to protect Silvairre; French has her apologize for getting in the way.
‘Sorry for dragging you down...’ English has Leih urge you to protect Silvairre; Japanese has her apologize for holding you back.

Heh, as you will!

Ugh, my arms...what did you do to me!?

‘Why does an archer have magic like this!?’ English has Leih ask what was done to her; Japanese has her wonder why an archer uses paralysis magic.

Not to you...anyone but you...

Thank the gods you've come, [name]! Perhaps you can talk some sense into this stubborn fool!

We understand how you feel, Silvairre, but this is too reckless! At least permit [name] and me to accompany you.

But I do understand! I know what it means to take pride in your home, to want more than anything to protect it...and to be consumed by guilt when you cannot. I see what you're going through, Silvairre, and I...I understand.

‘Properly seeing and knowing all sorts of things, and fighting.’ English speaks of guilt at failing to protect one's home; Japanese speaks of fighting after truly seeing and knowing.

This guild taught me to open my eyes and see clearly. I beg you, Silvairre, open yours! You have friends here, ready to fight. You have us.

‘Because I was taught the meaning of "seeing" in this guild, we can see clearly how great a burden our comrade is carrying.’ English urges Silvairre to see that he has friends; Japanese says they see how heavy his burden is.

...Well his lying certainly hasn't improved.

If he honestly thinks he's doing us a favor by forbidding us from getting involved, he's an even bigger fool than I imagined. Come, [name]! To the South Shroud!

Silvairre

Leih, [name]─deal with the others. Pawah and I have unfinished business.

Leih, [name]─spread out! She has oiled arrows!

Ugh...so it's to be like that, huh...

‘Urgh! I have sullied the honor of my people by failing...’ English has Silvairre wryly resign himself; French has him lament dishonoring his people.
‘Tch, I am ashamed, you pull through...’ English has Silvairre wryly resign himself; Japanese has him apologize in shame.

I do hope you will forgive my forwardness, madam.

There is no time, Luciane! Pawah would be long gone before their forces had even assembled!

Alone, I can move more swiftly, take these poachers by surprise, and force them to divulge her location.

‘If it is only one archer on our side, they will let their guard down.’ English says alone he can move faster; Japanese says a lone archer will make them drop their guard.

You? The adventurer and the savage? You do not─you cannot understand.

...I have never considered you my friends. Do not follow me.

Report to Luciane.

Luciane

Calm yourself, Silvairre. At least let us petition the Order of the Twin Adder for─

Silvairre!

Silvairre

Well this is...unfortunate.

Leih Aliapoh

Silvairre!

Silvairre

Leih!? [name]!? I told you not to follow me! I neither need nor want─

Leih Aliapoh

Don't take me for a fool. You cannot conceal the truth from this archer's eye!

  • DE Wir retten hier deinen stolzen Hintern. ‘We are saving your proud backside here.’ English says he cannot hide the truth from her archer's eye; German says they are saving his proud backside.

[name], the others are almost upon us. We must make our stand here and protect Silvairre!

Silvairre

...I told you, I do not need or want your assistance. Quite why you have deluded yourselves into thinking─

Leih Aliapoh

You're the one who's deluded! Thinking you could deceive us, when even a blind man could see that you cover your mouth every time you tell a lie.

Silvairre

...

Leih Aliapoh

Observe with intent, overlooking not the smallest detail. Discern your subject's unique characteristics, and recognize patterns in their behavior.

I learned these things from Luciane...and from you.

And I'll be damned if I'm going to watch you get yourself killed! There's still so much I don't know about Gridania and Wildwood archery, so much that I...that I need you to teach me!

‘And I... would also be glad if I could have your help.’ English vows not to watch him get himself killed; German says she would be glad of his help.

Silvairre

...Hmph. I suppose fixing your form is the least I can do.

‘If that can wipe out my debt to you, then it is agreed.’ English has him jab that fixing her form is the least he can do; French has him agree to settle a debt.
‘...Hmph. With that, we are even for this time.’ English has him jab that fixing her form is the least he can do; Japanese has him call it settling the score.

Leih Aliapoh

Why, you─

  • FR D'accord !! ‘All right!!’ English has Leih bristle at his jab; French has her happily agree.
  • DE Vielen Dank, Silvairre. ‘Thank you very much, Silvairre.’ English has Leih bristle at his jab; German has her thank him.
  • JA ああ! ‘Yeah!’ English has Leih bristle at his jab; Japanese has her agree.

Silvairre

Pawah's gang is already on the move. We have but one chance to catch them.

Poachers throughout the Twelveswood use bone whistles like this one to communicate. With it, I believe we can lure Pawah out of hiding─assuming she has not moved on.

Leih Aliapoh

So that's why you came to Takers' Rot...for this gang's whistle.

‘Ah! So that's why you went to Deadleaf, then?’ English names the place "Takers' Rot"; French calls it "Deadleaf".
‘I see, so you went to the Drift of Rotten Leaves to get this...’ English names the place "Takers' Rot"; Japanese calls it "the Drift of Rotten Leaves".

Silvairre

[name]─if you are determined to help me, I have a task for you.

Pawah was last seen near Issom-Har. To the east of the camp, through a hollow tree trunk, is a clearing where two streams meet, and efts are wont to congregate. We will lay our trap there, and you will be the bait.

‘So try using this whistle in the middle of the spring surrounded by stones, east of Issom-Har.’ English describes a clearing where two streams meet and efts gather; French describes a spring ringed by stones.
‘The stones have special acoustic properties that will carry the sound very far, so Pawah's accomplices will hear the signal.’ English says you will be the bait in a trap; French says the stones will carry the whistle's sound far.
‘They were sighted east of Issom-Har, by a spring surrounded by rocks.’ English describes a clearing where two streams meet and efts gather; German describes a spring ringed by rocks.
‘Whistle for the poachers there, and the echo will carry the sound everywhere.’ English says you will be the bait in a trap; German says the echo will carry the whistle's sound everywhere.
‘East of Issom-Har's Den, blow this bone-work whistle in the middle of the spring surrounded by rocks.’ English describes a clearing where two streams meet and efts gather; Japanese describes a spring ringed by rocks.
‘The surrounding rocks should make the whistle's sound echo and reach their ears.’ English says you will be the bait in a trap; Japanese says the rocks will echo the whistle to their ears.

Do not fear, [name]. I swear on my honor as a Gridanian archer that no harm will come to you.

Luciane

I am relieved to see you again, [name].

Had the three of you not been united in your purpose, Pawah Mujuuk would still be free, and one or more of you would surely be dead.

‘You owe all of this to your archer's eye.’ English credits the unity of all three; French credits your archer's eye.
‘If you had not supported your comrades, Pawah would still be at large.’ English credits the unity of all three; German credits your support of your comrades.
‘Your archer's eyes supported the two of them, and made it possible to capture Pawah Mujuuk.’ English credits the unity of all three; Japanese credits your archer's eyes for supporting the other two.

I am so proud of you, [name]. Not only have you mastered our teachings, but you have also helped your guildmates regain the perspective that they had lost. For showing such compassion to your peers, I wish to teach you a new technique─Windbite.

‘And in honor of this, I am going to teach you one very last technique of our guild.’ English rewards your compassion to your peers; French honors your mastery of the guild's teaching.
‘For so much zeal I will teach you a new technique.’ English rewards your compassion to your peers; German rewards your zeal.
‘I will teach you a technique handed down in the Archers' Guild, as proof that you have completed your training in this guild.’ English rewards your compassion to your peers; Japanese marks the completion of your training.

With Windbite, you can bring the power of the very air around you to bear against your opponents. And they will suffer on long after you have nocked your next arrow. It will serve you well in battle, I am certain.

All archers walk the same path, [name], towards improvement and discovery. As long as you have the vision to see the path ahead, you will continue to mature and excel.

Yet we all grow weary and lose direction in time. When this befalls you, I have no doubt but that you will find your way back to us.

Trust in your eyes, [name]. They will never lead you astray.

Silvairre

Hmph. Did you learn nothing from my lesson? Your style is far removed from proper Wildwood technique. Still...you acquitted yourself well enough, I suppose.

I will see to Pawah. Should she try to escape, she will find me far less sympathetic than the last time.

Leih Aliapoh

Did you see it, [name]? A perfect shot!

Luciane must hear of this! Let's hurry back to Gridania at once!

Silvairre

And I thought you only had eyes for me...

Pawah Mujuuk

...I can't...I won't...
