  4. You have delivered your report to Baensyng. According to the prices you recorded, the markets seem free of any shady dealings for another day.
Hidden
Easter egg Syneyhil panics about 'another one of those investigations' before you ask anything. So these price checks are nothing new. Kyokyoroon rhymes about himself in the third person.
Spoiler about later in the story

Foreshadowing Remember Kyokyoroon, the Qiqirn trader, and Baensyng, who takes your price list. Both come back in the main story, in the Lv 23 quest Never Forget.

In-game text The Encyclopaedia Eorzea names one key trait that makes the Qiqirn different from other wandering peoples. They are able to fit into foreign communities.

What happens in this quest spoilers for this quest
  • Swozblaet has you pose as a customer and secretly note the prices of Iron Thunder, Kyokyoroon and Syneyhil. Swozblaet calls it a simple task. You then hand the price list to Baensyng, as Swozblaet asked.
  • Iron Thunder cheerfully shows off wares without a spot of rust, fresh from the forges of Naldiq & Vymelli's. You quietly write down the prices.
  • Kyokyoroon greets you in cheerful rhymes and speaks of himself by name. He is a Qiqirn, one of the wandering peoples, known for fitting into foreign communities.
  • Syneyhil sees you looking at everything and guesses it is "another one of those investigations". Syneyhil insists there is nothing to hide before you ask anything, so such price checks seem to be nothing new.
  • Baensyng checks your list and finds nothing wrong. He explains that pirates selling stolen goods cheaply drag prices down, so these reports show at a glance when shady deals happen. He praises your work.
What the Japanese and German versions say 4

Japanese

EN The Right Price · 'Swozblaet, the master merchant of Hawkers' Alley, wants you to look into current market prices.'

JA 「潮香る国際街商通り」, 'the sea-scented International Hawkers' Street' · 「国際街商通りの責任者スヴォズブレートは、市場の価格調査を依頼したいようだ。」, 'Swozblaet, the head of International Hawkers' Street, seems to want a survey of market prices.'

The title marks Hawkers' Alley as the street of international traders. It adds the salty smell of the harbor.

EN 'Mmm, nothin' wrong with the markets, far as I can tell.'

JA 「ふむふむ、あなたの報告によると、今回の価格は、波風なさそうだな。」, 'Hmm, hmm. Going by your report, it's smooth sailing for prices this time.'

Baensyng uses waves and wind, a common figure of speech for trouble. A sea image fits a harbor market.

German

Speech style

EN 'Mmm, nothin' wrong with the markets, far as I can tell.'

DE „Deiner Studie zufolge haben wir keinen Preiskampf zu befürchten. Die Preise liegen im Rahmen üblicher Marktschwankungen und sind saisonbereinigt stabil.“, 'According to your study, we have no price war to fear. Prices are within the range of normal market fluctuations and stable on a seasonally adjusted basis.'

Baensyng talks like an economist. The English Baensyng just drawls.

Different

EN 'Ye ofttimes get pirates sellin' stolen goods at cutthroat prices, an' that drives the numbers down right across 'Awkers' Alley.'

DE „Wir behalten die Preise auch deswegen im Auge, weil verdächtig günstige Angebote auf nicht sanktionierte Piratenbeute schließen lassen. Und illegale Piraterie können wir nicht zulassen.“, 'We also watch the prices because suspiciously cheap offers point to unsanctioned pirate loot. And illegal piracy we cannot allow.'

Baensyng only bans the loot and piracy that is not allowed. That hints that in Limsa some piracy is legal.

Swozblaet

You, miss/sir─adventurer. I have work for you. I would have you pose as a customer and survey the market's current prices.

Surely I did not see you balk at so simple a task? All you need do is strike up a conversation with the shop owners, and glance over their wares.

There are three merchants that interest me: Iron Thunder, Kyokyoroon, and Syneyhil.

Write down all you see on this price list, and hand it to Baensyng on West Hawkers' Alley. He shall reward you for your service.

  • FR Mais dites-moi, ce n'est quand même pas Swozblaet qui vous envoie inspecter mes marchandises... ‘But tell me, it surely isn't Swozblaet who is sending you to inspect my goods...?’ French merchant guesses outright that Swozblaet sent you; English merchant only suspects another investigation.
