Story

103Forging the Spirit
Swynbroes is a man at the Bonfire who knows the secrets of materia, crystals made from the spirit you put into your gear.
Swynbroes teaches you that worn gear holds its owner's spiritual energy, called a spiritbond, and how to draw it out as materia. He says melding materia takes a craftsman and sends you to F'hobhas for that.
107Life, Materia and Everything
Swynbroes is one of Mutamix's students at the Bonfire in central Thanalan.
Swynbroes helps with the show, hands Mutamix the materia, and calls him Master. Swynbroes explains that materia is a kind of crystal, made by drawing the aether, or magic energy, out of a piece of gear.
