Next: Nouveau Riche ›

Steps

  1. Investigate the specified areas.
  2. Report to Buscarron.
Journal
  1. If Buscarron had his druthers, he'd have an adventurer with whom to share talk of sylphs.
  2. Sightings of sylphs in a region of the wood beyond their domain have given cause for concern. Buscarron has marked a tract on your map. Travel there and survey the area.
  3. You have completed your patrol of the designated area. Return to the Druthers and speak with Buscarron.
  4. Buscarron tells you that Garlean soldiers were never before able to penetrate the forest depths. The mounting evidence seems to suggest that there is a traitor in Gridania aiding the imperial advance.
Hidden
Easter egg The inn's name plays on 'druthers', a folksy US word that comes from 'I'd rather'. The journal makes the joke: 'If Buscarron had his druthers'.

    • #123 Spirited Away: Buscarron has heard talk of a sylph nearby, but cannot say if it is the elder. He says most folk cannot tell sylphs apart. He agrees to listen for news among his customers and invites you to stay.
    • #124 Druthers House Rules: Buscarron gives you a tub of cold water to cool the drunk down without violence. He allows loud drinking but no fighting at the Druthers. He welcomes all who pay and behave, even Duskwight Elezen, whom many treat as brigands.
    • #125 Never Forget: Buscarron found Teteroon, a Qiqirn, near death in the Shroud after the Calamity and nursed him back to health. Teteroon worked at the Druthers, then left for La Noscea. Buscarron wants his forgotten scarlet earring returned to him.
    • #129 Like Fine Wine: Buscarron is moved to tears by Teteroon's firewater and hides it by blaming someone cutting onions. He agrees to keep it a year, though he hates to wait. He invites you back then to share the bottle.

Buscarron

There was word while you were away. Sylphs were seen in the wood, but near no lands of their own. No, this was a place near to here─a place we've never known a sylph to come.

Something must have given them cause to venture this far. More than like, the missing sylph elder's among them. Here, I've marked the tract where they were sighted on your map. Go see if there's anything to be seen.

  • DE Es kann natürlich sein, dass sie nach ihrer Ältesten suchen. ‘Of course, it may be that they are searching for their elder.’ English says the missing elder is likely among them; German says they may be searching for their elder.

Report to Buscarron.

So, was there aught to be found in the wood? What did you come to─ ...Garleans!? In this part of the Twelveswood!?

Hmmm... First sylphs and now Garleans, and all in the same place. It cannot be mere coincidence. Might the Garleans be following the sylphs? Tracking them or giving chase, mayhap?

But no, not this far into the forest. The Wailers' spires are everywhere. Imperials could never have stolen past them all. How in the bloody hells could they─ Unless...

Unless someone guided them through. Someone who knew where the spires stand, and when the Wailers watch. A Gridanian traitor.
