Bleeder of the Pack
Marauder class quest, level 25. 138th of 171 in play order.
Journal
- Axemaster Wyrnzoen
wishes to set for you a trial that will hone your strength and skill to ever greater heights. - After your eye-opening encounter with the pack jackals, the axemaster deems that, without further training, your chances against Kujata remain slim. He has thus devised a new trial, designed to unleash your deepest reserves of destructive power. Head to the Bismarck and speak with Solkwyb
to learn what you must do. - It appears that Solkwyb
will once again accompany you during your training. Prepare yourself for what promises to be a grueling trial before seeking out the conjurer on the Salt Strand in lower La Noscea. - At first, your trial seems absurdly simple. But even as you defeat the first wave of adversaries in the shadow of the Salt Strand's ominous formations, you next find yourself attacked by an eerily familiar group of masked men. After swinging your axe with grim determination, you eventually triumph over the “mysterious” warriors, and they quit the field in deference to your superior skill. Return to the Marauders' Guild and report this turn of events to Axemaster Wyrnzoen
. - Setting the matter of strange masked men aside, Wyrnzoen
instead focuses on praising your display of unrivaled power. You are now recognized as the exemplar of marauder strength, and the entire guild stands ready to support you in your quest to slay the monstrous Kujata. Keep your axe blade keen and your skills sharp as you await the next sighting of the murderous aurochs. The time has come for the beast to die. ※The next marauder quest will be available from Wyrnzoen upon reaching level 30.

What you know from earlier quests 5

- #35 Axe in the Stone: Wyrnzoen sends you to learn the guild's old rock splitting training, then to clear megalocrabs for the Red Rooster Stead. He knows of the fierce beast that killed Sighard's
parents, and warns you are not yet strong enough for revenge. - #51 Wake of Destruction: Wyrnzoen names the beast Kujata, the "Stampeding Mountain", and urges your revenge. He sends you to protect folk from galagos and to save a farmer's spilled cargo from plainstriders. He swears to train you until Kujata falls by your hand.
- #74 Brutal Strength: Wyrnzoen sends you to hunt a beast near Aleport with his old friend Reynfred
, then to break a great boulder. He praises you, teaches you Tomahawk, a thrown axe attack, and warns that rushing leads to weak blows. - #108 The Mountain That Strides: Wyrnzoen calls Solkwyb
his sister. He rushes in to scatter the jackals and saves Sighard
, then apologizes to Neddard
for the boy's wounds. He fears Sighard's thirst for revenge and vows again to make you strong enough to fell Kujata.

Accepting the quest
[name]. Our near-disastrous encounter with the pack that follows Kujata has been preying on my mind. The overwhelming number of the beasts was beyond aught I had imagined─even the most dedicated marauder could not hope to carve through that snarling wall of flesh.
What are you playing at, you oafs!?
No matter. We fight to win!
Now this is more like it!
‘Damn it, are they never going to leave us alone!?’ English is pleased at a worthier fight; French is annoyed the enemies will not leave them alone.
- DE Was für lästige Typen! ‘What annoying guys!’ English is pleased at a worthier fight; German complains about annoying guys.
‘Tch, these guys really are persistent!’ English is pleased at a worthier fight; Japanese complains the foes are really persistent.
On your guard! We are not done!
Keep your focus! This is no game!
Spent already? Our battle has scarce begun!
You fight well, marauder. Now we see what you are truly made of.
And if we cannot dispatch the pack, then Kujata remains beyond our reach.
Thus, I have prepared for you a trial that shall unleash your deepest reserves of destructive strength. As before, Solkwyb
awaits you at the Bismarck to guide you on your path.
Do not squander this opportunity for growth, [name]. The pride of the guild itself rides on the keen edge of your axe.
Speak with Solkwyb
.
You've word from my brother? ...Hah, the “pride of the guild,” eh? My brother has placed quite a burden on your shoulders, it seems. But, from what I have witnessed, if any marauder has the skill and determination to put down Kujata, then it is you.
- DE Hauptsache, du verspürst jetzt keinen Druck. ‘The main thing is that you don't feel any pressure now.’ English sympathizes with the heavy burden; German teasingly says the main thing is to feel no pressure.
And there is, of course, the matter of Sighard's
vengeance. You don't want to disappoint the poor boy, now, do you?
Let us be about this trial, [name]. I shall meet you on the Salt Strand in lower La Noscea, where your training is to take place. Hm? Well, naturally, I will be there. Without me, you're like to forget to tend your wounds and bleed to death!
Speak with Solkwyb
on the Salt Strand.
That seems to be the last of them. Compared to what we have faced before, though, it wasn't terribly─
Defeat the Moraby hedgemoles!
Defeat the masked marauders!
- DE Besiege alle vertrauten Gesichter! ‘Defeat all familiar faces!’ English calls the foes masked marauders; German calls them familiar faces.
- JA 知人に似た男たちを倒せ ‘Defeat the men who resemble an acquaintance.’ English calls the foes masked marauders; Japanese calls them men who resemble an acquaintance.
Defeat the familiar marauder!
- FR Abattez Zoenwyrn ! ‘Defeat Zoenwyrn!’ English only says the familiar marauder; French names him Zoenwyrn.
Report to Wyrnzoen
.
???: We have deemed you worthy of our challenge. Come, marauder! Let us test the edge of your steel!
Oh, brother...
- FR Quel abruti... ‘What an idiot...’ English sighs «Oh, brother»; French calls him an idiot instead.
- DE Dieser Dummkopf! ‘That fool!’ English sighs «Oh, brother»; German calls him a fool instead.
‘Y-you idiot big brother...!?’ English sighs «Oh, brother»; Japanese calls him an idiot big brother outright.
I yield! Your strength has humbled us all. Aye, it might just be enough...
We are done here, my colleagues! Drag away those who cannot stand.
- DE He, steht auf, ihr faulen Säcke! ‘Hey, get up, you lazy sacks!’ English orders the fallen dragged away; German insults them as lazy sacks and tells them to get up.
‘Surely there is no one who cannot stand?’ English orders those who cannot stand dragged away; Japanese taunts that surely none of them cannot stand.
Your display of prowess was truly impressive, [name]. Worthy, indeed...
What a ridiculous charade. Did he honestly think we couldn't see through those paltry disguises?
‘It's so naive that it's almost cute.’ English scorns a ridiculous charade; French finds his naivety almost cute.
‘We showed the old sack what's what.’ English scorns a ridiculous charade; German gloats that they showed the old sack.
Though I am confident my brother's act was not born of malice; rather, he hoped by concealing his identity that the trial would seem more threatening, thus increasing its effectiveness. Not an entirely successful undertaking, but one must appreciate his intentions.
‘As you suspect, this training was just a pretext to cross swords with you and check that you have the level needed to face Kujata.’ English says he hid his identity to make the trial more threatening; French says the training was a pretext to cross swords with you.
It is time you returned to the guild. Oh, and as a favor to me? Pray indulge Wyrnzoen
in his little deception─subterfuge is not a marauder's forte.
‘Above all, hold back from bursting out laughing when you think of his deplorable acting!’ English jokes subterfuge is not a marauder's forte; French warns you not to laugh at his deplorable acting.
‘We can safely leave him this pride.’ English jokes subterfuge is not a marauder's forte; German says to let him keep his pride.
‘We have to let big brother save face.’ English jokes subterfuge is not a marauder's forte; Japanese says big brother must be allowed to save face.
[name], I have heard of your skirmish on the Salt Strand. You did well to topple opponents of such formidable skill.
- DE Danke für diese brandneuen Informationen. ‘Thanks for this brand-new information.’ English says he has heard of your skirmish; German has him feign surprise, thanking you for brand-new information.
- DE Schade, dass ich nicht dabei war. ‘Shame I wasn't there.’ English praises beating such skilled foes; German has him say it is a shame he was not there.
‘It seems you encountered tougher foes than what we had prepared, but you pulled through splendidly.’ English praises beating very skilled foes; Japanese lets slip they were tougher than what he had prepared.
But let us not dwell on the nature of those masked men. What is important is your triumph in the face of overwhelming odds.
‘Thanks to him and his men, you were able to train to face a great number of opponents at once; it was an excellent preparation exercise.’ English says not to dwell on the masked men; French credits him and his men for your training.
Your fellow marauders are honored to have you swing your axe in the guild's name. They stand behind you, one and all, as you prepare to overcome your greatest trial yet.
Aye, the time has come for you to bring Kujata's bloody rampage to an end. When next he rears his horrible horned head, you shall be ready to bury your blade in his skull.
Well, this should be the place. I don't see─ Ah, do you sense that encroaching aura of violence, [name]? Pray unlimber that axe of yours.
It seems my underlings have provided you with poor sport. Very well. I shall take your measure with mine own blade.
Do not think to show me quarter, [name], for I shall surely show you none!
