Hamon is in high spirits and eager to train for his rematch with Weggfarr.
What you know from earlier quests 5
- #2 Way of the Pugilist: Hamon first mistakes you for his errand boy and panics about a dancer. Then he welcomes you to the guild, explains that pugilists fight fast with fists and feet, sends you to hunt vermin, and gives you a hunting log.
- #25 Harder than Rock: Hamon makes you sprint around Ul'dah to collect his scattered gil, and teaches you to pace yourself. He sends you to fight earth sprites at the trial stones, praises you, and introduces his assistant Chuchuto
. He mentions one other early student, then stops. - #46 Burning Up the Quarter Malm: Hamon teaches you the combo Bootshine, True Strike, then Snap Punch. He likes to tell how he beat the marauder Wideaxe. He took in Chuchuto
and Rurukuta
as starving orphans and worries about her slump. He lets you join other guilds. - #72 The Spirit Is Willing: Hamon agrees to catch somnus (a drug) smugglers for a fan. At the hideout he finds his student Rurukuta
among them. Rurukuta reveals he saw a marmot beat Hamon. Hamon admits old age took his strength, apologizes, and leaves to be alone. - #110 Keeping the Spirit Alive: The
hornet stingers remind Hamon of his youth. He fights you and feels alive again. His old rival Weggfarr Wideaxe offers a public rematch, the guild as prize, and Hamon accepts. He admits he is weak but says fighting you reminds him who he was.

Chuchuto wants to keep helping Hamon
regain his strength for the rematch. What you know from earlier quests 4

right hand and his very first student, who joined just after he became guildmaster. She is cheerful, wants to master the art with you, and steers talk away from the past. She asks for her gil, needed for gear repairs. - #46 Burning Up the Quarter Malm: Chuchuto teases Hamon
, who tells tales of beating Wideaxe but never shows his skill. She praises your fast progress. Hamon says she has been in a slump since her closest friend and rival, Rurukuta
, vanished from the guild. Both were orphans Hamon took in. - #72 The Spirit Is Willing: Chuchuto fights beside you and explains that somnus, made from dream flowers, can cause endless sleep. She confronts Rurukuta
at the hideout. After seeing Hamon's
weakness, she still respects him, owes him her life, and teaches you Steel Peak to rekindle his spirit. - #110 Keeping the Spirit Alive: Chuchuto sends you to Drybone to strike the trees marked by Hamon's
fists and fight hornet clouds, as he did in his youth. Her plan works. She is dismayed when Hamon agrees to Weggfarr's rematch with the guild as the prize.

Hah hah hah! I swear, each time I see you, you remind me more and more of my younger self. At this rate, you're like to transform into a handsome devil before the moon's over!
‘At this rate, you will soon deserve the nickname "Divine Fists" like me!’ English jokes you will become a handsome devil; French says you will soon earn his own nickname.
‘If you keep this up, soon no one will be able to fool you anymore!’ English jokes you will become a handsome devil; German says soon no one will be able to fool you.
‘It seems you have trained even further!’ English jokes you will become a handsome devil; Japanese only remarks that you have trained further.
Now then, I believe you're here to learn. Unfortunately, I'm in no condition to teach.
‘Not only you, I too keep up my training!’ English says he is in no condition to teach; Japanese says he too keeps up his training.
Speak with Chuchuto
.
It seems the prospect of facing his old rival has lit a veritable fire under Master Hamon's
backside. I am so relieved to see that he has a purpose again. The trick now is to keep a lid on his zeal, lest he injure himself!
But let us speak of your lesson. When you are ready, come and meet me at Little Ala Mhigo. I have a challenge in mind that you are certain to find...stimulating!
Report to Chuchuto
.
I've brought with me a set of
striking dummies, and I want you to deploy them at certain locations.
Lest you think this task to be drudgery, the locations are rife with peril. Your skills will most certainly be put to the test.
By way of advice, if you must approach dangerous fiends, lightness of foot is your greatest ally.
‘If I must give you one piece of advice, it is not to take your eyes off the aggressive creatures you may come across.’ English advises lightness of foot; French advises never taking your eyes off aggressive creatures.
‘Remember your training when you must take on dangerous foes, and you will have nothing to fear.’ English advises lightness of foot; German advises remembering your training.
Off with you now, [name]─go set up those
striking dummies. I shall await your return!
How goes it? Let me know when you have deployed all the
striking dummies.
What are you doing here!?
That adventurer is a negative influence on Master Hamon
. I'm going to see to it she/he never bothers him again.
- JA …… ‘If you lot go meddling, Master gets stronger.’ English calls the adventurer a negative influence; Japanese says their meddling makes Master stronger.
What are you talking about!? [name]'s the best thing that's happened to Master in years! If you want a piece of her/him, you'll need to deal with me, too!
‘You... you've gone rotten right down to your heart!’ English asks what he is talking about; Japanese says his heart has gone rotten too.
You have it all wrong! I'm doing this for Master's own sake!
‘This is all my own will!’ English says he acts for Master's own sake; Japanese says it is all his own will.
It's true I left the guild for the shock of seeing Master in that pathetic state. And it's true I got involved with some unsavory types. But where else was I supposed to go? Me, a refugee without a gil to his name!
‘But what could I do then, without family or a single gil in my pocket?’ English calls him a refugee; French says he had no family.
‘After I ran off... the only ones who took in someone like me, with no money, no kin and no schooling, were the underworld.’ English calls him a refugee; Japanese says he had no kin and no schooling.
But for all the ungrateful things I've done, I've never forgotten how Master Hamon
took me in and instructed me in the ways of the fist. This is why I want him to give up his foolish notion of facing Weggfarr.
You don't know that man like I do, Chuchuto
. Should this fight come to pass, I fear Master won't walk away with his life.
It doesn't matter that Master has grown weak and feeble. I just want him to live, even if it means having him swallow his pride.
‘So... so at least... I want Master to stay weak.’ English says Master's weakness does not matter; Japanese says he wants Master to stay weak.
But now that I know your mind, I can say with confidence that you have no cause to fear.
[name] is not the plague that you think she/he is. It's her/his will to succeed that's inspiring Master to regain his former strength. And when the day of the rematch finally comes, I've no doubt he will wallop that odious Weggfarr to the seventh hell and back!
I pray you're right. But whatever happens, know that I cannot help you, not where I am. Chuchuto
, [name]...I leave Master Hamon
in your care.
Report to Hamon
at the Pugilists' Guild.
But gods, woman/man, did you have to put them in such dangerous places!?
To make matters worse, Chuchuto's
hidden my grog and says I won't see a drop of it till I've finished training! How the hells am I supposed to loosen my phlegm now!?
‘And to top it all off, Chuchuto
told me I won't be able to eat until I've finished my training!’ English says Chuchuto
hid his grog; French says she will not let him eat. ‘I'm starting to wonder whether you have the slightest respect for your old master, the two of you.’ English jokes about loosening his phlegm; French wonders whether they respect their old master.
‘Honestly, such meddl... ahem, what students, truly devoted to their master!’ English jokes about loosening his phlegm; Japanese has him catch himself and praise his devoted students.
That girl will make a fine guildmaster when the time comes...
. ‘Ah, by the way, she also told me about Rurukuta
.’ English praises Chuchuto
as a future guildmaster; French says she also told him about Rurukuta
. - JA …… ‘...And I also heard about Rurukuta
.’ English praises Chuchuto
as a future guildmaster; Japanese says he also heard about Rurukuta
.
But while his concern is touching, I won't run from Weggfarr! Not today, and not ever!
On that note, I'd best get ready for my little jaunt to Little Ala Mhigo. If I can't face down a few mindless beasts, I'm in no shape to challenge Weggfarr. Don't slack off, [name], or I'll leave you in my dusty wake!

That creature will sap your strength! Avoid its gaze!
Y-You leave [name]...alone...
- FR Pardon, [name]... Il est trop fort pour moi... ‘Sorry, [name]... He's too strong for me...’ English has her defiantly tell him to leave [name] alone; French has her apologize that he is too strong.
‘Sorry, [name]... I... couldn't protect you...’ English has her defiantly tell him to leave [name] alone; Japanese has her apologize for failing to protect you.
