  2. Speak with Trachtoum.
Journal
  1. Trachtoum appears to be ignoring you.
  2. Trachtoum is concerned that you lack the strength to face a primal in battle. If you wish to prove yourself to him, you must head west of the Grey Fleet, search for any goobbues in the area, and slay them if they approach.
  3. Although Trachtoum's instructions nearly lead you into the gaping maw of a goobbue, you dispatch the giant beast with little difficulty. Return to Trachtoum and tell him of your accomplishments.
  4. Your deeds serve to shock the veteran marauder, but they are not enough to earn his confidence. It seems you have much and more left to do...
Hidden
FF nod Goobbues come from Final Fantasy XI. FFXIV kept the same look for them.
Title reference The title plays on 'Hungry Hungry Hippos', a table game where players use toy hippos to grab marbles. Here the hungry beasts are goobbues drawn to the flour of the mill.

Trachtoum

...What? Ye still askin' about how we beat Tidus? I dunno, 'venturer...it was a pretty risky strategy, the kind only a veteran of ten score battles could rely upon.

  • DE Wie willst du dem denn auch nur einen Kratzer zufügen, wenn du schon mit ein paar Ratten solche Probleme hast? ‘How do you plan to even scratch it if you already have such trouble with a few rats?’ English says the strategy is too risky for any but veterans; German mocks that you struggled even with a few rats.
  • JA ふふん、元海雄旅団の俺様に言わせれば、ネズミ退治程度の働きじゃあ、まだまだ教えらんねえな。 ‘Heh, if you ask me, a former Company of Heroes man, for work on the level of killing rats, I still can't tell you.’ English says the strategy is too risky for any but veterans; Japanese says killing rats is not enough to earn the tale.

I want to teach ye, I truly do! But unless ye prove ye have what it takes to face that fat bastard, I can't in good conscience tell you a damn thing!

  • JA 教えてやりたいけど、それなりの対価がないとなー! ‘I want to tell you, but not without a suitable price!’ English demands proof that you can face the primal; Japanese demands a suitable price.

At the very least, ye'd need to be capable of slayin', say, a goobbue...

Come to think of it, that ain't a bad idea. Them creatures have a taste for the flour milled here, so ye ought to have no trouble findin' one in the vicinity.

'Course, I ain't askin' ye to cut one down quick as a skilled axeman like meself!

  • JA まぁ、元海雄旅団の俺様だったら、3秒で倒せるが……お前には、無理かもしれねぇなぁ! ‘Well, a former Company of Heroes man like me could beat it in 3 seconds... but for you, it might be impossible!’ English says he won't demand you be as quick as him; Japanese taunts that it may be impossible for you.

Anyroad, why don't ye try headin' due west an' standin' lookout 'case a goobbue comes callin'? Slay it, an' I might consider tellin' ye more about ol' Tidus.

Speak with Trachtoum.

Trachtoum

Eh? You again? Then that goobbue that was harassin' the millers is dead?

Didn't think ye had it in ye, 'venturer. Still, you took forever an' a day to get the job done. I'm still not sure if I should tell you our secrets...
