Steps

  1. Destroy the rats' nest.
  2. Speak with Trachtoum.
Journal
  1. Trachtoum is eager to regale you with stories of his glory days.
  2. Although Trachtoum claims to have battled a dread primal known as “Tidus,” you cannot help but question his account. He quickly recognizes your doubt, and refuses to reveal the Company's secret strategy─that is, unless you destroy a nest of wild rats by one of the windmills outside. If you wish to defeat Titan, then you have no choice but to acquiesce to his demands.
  3. You effortlessly slay the vermin and destroy their nest. Return to Trachtoum and tell him the deed is done.
  4. It would appear that Trachtoum used you to handle work he himself had been tasked to do. In spite of this irritating revelation, you must swallow your pride and press him for more information.
Hidden
Lore The Company of Heroes that Trachtoum boasts about was a real band of mercenaries, formed in the year 1562 of the Sixth Astral Era.
FF nod Trachtoum keeps calling Titan 'Tidus'. Tidus is the name of the hero of Final Fantasy X, so the mix-up is a wink to longtime fans.

Trachtoum

Gah hah hah! So, ye want to hear the tale of how the Company of Heroes bested a primal, do ye?

‘Right! Show me your bestiary so I can sign it.’ English asks if you want the tale of how they beat a primal; French asks for your bestiary so he can autograph it.

Let me guess: ye mean that bastard Tidus, aye?

  • DE Gigant! ‘The Primal... named... Giant! That's the one!’ English has him garble the primal's name as "Tidus"; German has him call it "Gigant" (giant).

Oh, if only ye'd been there to see it!

'Twas a mighty struggle, like the legends of old!

Me an' the boys fought him for three days an' nights, we did!

‘But he wasn't fast enough for the great Trachtoum!’ English says he and the boys fought for three days and nights; French boasts the primal was too slow for him alone.
  • DE Ein Soldat des Heeres der Helden ... ein einziger ... Der große Trachtoum! ‘A soldier of the Company of Heroes... a single one... the great Trachtoum!’ English says he and the boys fought for three days and nights; German says a single soldier, Trachtoum, brought it down.
‘And who was it that was dashingly dodging all that~?’ English says he and the boys fought for three days and nights; Japanese has him boast that he alone dodged everything.

The ground trembled with every step Tidus took, an' when he hit ye, girl/boy, it felt like a cannonball to the gut. Uggghhh! Just like that!

‘Meanwhile, I was whirling my axe all around me and knocking down his horde of monsters!’ English describes being hit like a cannonball to the gut; French boasts of axing down the primal's horde of monsters.
  • DE Du hättest seine Tentakel sehen sollen! ‘You should have seen his tentacles!’ English describes the ground trembling at his steps; German describes his tentacles, thick as tree trunks.
‘I swung my axe around without pause, and when the blade was worn down to the shaft, I used it as a club!’ English describes being hit like a cannonball to the gut; German boasts of swinging his axe until the blade wore away.
‘My axe, flying freely in every direction, mowing down the swarming little octopi one after another...’ English describes being hit like a cannonball to the gut; Japanese boasts his axe mowed down swarms of little octopi.

Oi, what's that look for? I'm a godsdamned hero, I'll have you know! The people 'round here sing me praises! Don't tell me ye only care about learnin' the secret tactics we used to beat ol' Tidus...

  • DE Titan, genau! Mein ich ja! ‘... Titan, exactly! That's what I meant!’ English still has him say "ol' Tidus"; German has him finally say "Titan, exactly! That's what I meant!".

Hmph! Well, too bad, 'cause now I'm not feelin' charitable. If yer so damn desperate, then why don't ye do me a favor an' kill those rats that've made a nest by the windmill just south of here? Aye, do that, then we'll talk!

‘I could tell you, but before that I have to make sure you're strong enough to kill its henchmen.’ English says he no longer feels charitable; French says he must make sure you can kill the primal's henchmen.

Speak with Trachtoum.

Trachtoum

Eh? So the beasties are dead, are they? Nice work, 'venturer!

Saved me the hassle of─ah, never mind.

‘Well... All work deserves a reward, so I'll tell you what I know.’ English has him slip that you saved him a chore; French says all work deserves a reward and he will talk.
