Gundobald

Story

1. 140On to Little Ala Mhigo

Gundobald is the leader of Little Ala Mhigo, a settlement of Ala Mhigan refugees in southern Thanalan.

Gundobald meets you coldly and asks why his people should help an outsider. He says they struggle enough already. He tells you that you are not welcome and orders you to leave.

2. 141Tea for Three

Gundobald is at Little Ala Mhigo. Gisilbehrt has heard that you had business with him.

Gisilbehrt mentions him as a bristly old bear and has no doubt that he told you to leave.

3. 142Foot in the Door

Gundobald is one of the Ala Mhigan refugees whose trust you still need.

Gisilbehrt mentions that Gundobald belongs to the Ala Mhigan Resistance. So the best person to vouch for you is someone from the same group.

4. 147Come Highly Recommended

Gundobald still does not welcome you at Little Ala Mhigo.

Gundobald is moved to hear from Meffrid, whom he feared dead. Any friend of Meffrid is his friend, he says. He drops his mistrust and agrees to tell you what he knows of the masked stranger.

5. 148The Bear and the Young'uns' Cares

Gundobald now trusts you and is ready to share what he knows of the masked stranger.

Gundobald says some young people here meet the masked man in secret. He knows their anger: two decades ago he and his brothers rose against Ala Mhigo's ruler, playing into the Empire's hands, and Ala Mhigo fell. He asks you to report their plans.

6. 149Wilred Wants You

You have just finished talking with Gundobald, the old bear, who now trusts you.

Gundobald is shocked that Wilred and his friends attacked you for the sake of their plan. He fears the young fools may harm others or themselves, and wants to uncover their plan and stop it.

7. 150Big Trouble in Little Ala Mhigo

Gundobald wants your help to rein in the young ones, and wonders what power Wilred meant to use against the Empire.

Gundobald comforts Bertliana after her capture by the Corpse Brigade. He hurries east with you, saves Wilred from the Amalj'aa, and calls the young ones the hope of his people. He tells Wilred that Ala Mhigo lives on within them.

8. 151Back to Square One

Gundobald has told you all he knows about the masked stranger and wants to wish you well.

Gundobald says that what Wilred told you is all his people know. He hopes you find and stop the masked man, for the sake of the young ones who died because of his words.
