  2. An old comrade of Wyrnzoen's, now in the employ of Master Gegeruju of Costa del Sol, has sent an urgent call for reinforcements, and the axemaster believes you to be the only marauder up to the task. Travel to Costa del Sol and rendezvous with your guildmate Solkwyb.
  3. Solkwyb explains that Costa del Sol has been beset by a fearsome horde of turtles, and that the creatures seem to be originating from the northern shore. Investigate any possible cause of the beasts' burgeoning numbers.
  4. With the assistance of a formidable Roegadyn calling himself Curious Gorge, you have driven back the turtle horde that appeared to have been summoned forth by a suspicious figure. Speak to your guildmate Solkwyb, who appears unnerved by what she has seen.
  5. Solkwyb suspects that Curious Gorge's true identity is that of a gifted young marauder who disappeared when the Company of Heroes was disbanded. Should you wish to train in the lost art of the warrior, seek out Curious Gorge at Hidden Falls.
  6. Duly impressed by your strength, Curious Gorge presents you with the Soul of the Warrior. When your inner beast awakens, he explains, the runes will resonate, granting you such strength as you never thought possible. Hone your skills until such time as Curious Gorge can decipher the chronicles of his ancestors that he carries with him, and thereby continue your training. ※The next warrior quest will be available from Curious Gorge upon reaching level 35.
Hidden
Easter egg Curious Gorge's name plays on Curious George, the monkey from the children's picture books. That is why he warns you not to make 'one remark about the name'.
Spoiler about later in the story

Foreshadowing Remember that Curious Gorge has a brother. He also left their village, and unlike Gorge he can read the tribe's old chronicles.

Accepting the quest

Wyrnzoen

Ah, [name]. Just the woman/man I was hoping to see. Aye, it's plain as day that you've no equal in our guild, and I've a task that I'd entrust to no ordinary marauder.

To wit: I just received a message from an old comrade-in-arms of mine who now serves as a guardsman in Costa del Sol. It would seem the fighting's grown fierce in those parts, and he finds himself in dire need of reinforcements.

‘I don't know if you're aware, but the guards in Lord Gegeruju's service are mostly former mercenaries of the Fratrie des gabiers.’ English says the message came from his old comrade-in-arms, now a guardsman; French says the guards are mostly former Fratrie des gabiers mercenaries.

Mind you, this man is no white-livered whelp. He can wield an axe with the best of them, as evidenced by Master Gegeruju's paying good coin for the services of he and his men. No, any enemy who could fluster that bunch is not one to be trifled with.

I've sent Solkwyb on ahead to tend to the wounded. Seek her out upon your arrival and she'll apprise you of the situation at hand.

‘I have dispatched my sister Solkwyb on reconnaissance.’ English says Solkwyb was sent to tend the wounded; French says she was sent on reconnaissance.

Speak with Solkwyb in Costa del Sol.

Solkwyb

[name]! Ever the sight for sore eyes. A nasty bale of turtles has been preying on this area of late, snapping and gnashing at everything in sight. Why, even the best men that Master Gegeruju could buy find themselves no match for the creatures.

Word has it that the beasts have been sighted swimming in from the lightly guarded northern shore. I would send you there to investigate the cause behind their burgeoning numbers.

‘Apparently, the two sentries who watched that area were found with their guts hanging out this morning.’ English says the beasts swim in from the lightly guarded north shore; French says that area's two sentries were found gutted.

Speak with Solkwyb.

Solkwyb

Ugh, damn it all! [name], we must see to these beasts!

‘[name], how about turtle soup for dinner?!’ English says they must deal with these beasts; German jokes about turtle soup for dinner.

Seven hells, there's no end to them! Prepare to fall back!

  • FR Il faut qu'on appelle des renforts ! ‘We have to call for reinforcements!’ English says to prepare to fall back; French says they must call for reinforcements.
‘This one is even bigger than the others!’ English says there is no end to them; German says this one is bigger than the others.

Fend off the crazed archelons!

Solkwyb

My battle ends here... Forgive me, [name].

Speak with Curious Gorge.

Curious Gorge

???: I'll see to the shellbacks! You whelps just try not to end up as turtle grub!

‘Don't leave, I'm going to help you kill them!’ English mocks them as whelps who might become turtle grub; French tells them not to leave.
  • DE Rückzug ist nur etwas für Feiglinge! ‘???: Retreat is only for cowards!’ English mocks them as whelps who might become turtle grub; German says retreat is only for cowards.
‘You lot help me too!’ English mocks them as whelps who might become turtle grub; Japanese simply asks them to help.

Solkwyb

That axe! I've not seen its like in...

‘The man who lured these creatures had the same one!’ English says she has not seen its like; French says the man who lured the creatures had the same axe.
‘Aren't you the strange guy from earlier...?!’ English says she has not seen an axe like it; German asks if he is the strange guy from earlier.
‘That axe... are you the demon-man who left earlier...?’ English says she has not seen an axe like it; Japanese asks if he is the demon-man who left earlier.

[name]! We must do what we can!

Curious Gorge

That should send 'em scuttling back to their nests. You can call me Curious Gorge─one remark about the name and I'll rip yer ugly heads from your shoulders and suck the marrow out of your twitching spines. You two are guards from Costa del Sol, I reckon?

Solkwyb

Not as such. We are of the Marauders' Guild, sent here by Axemaster Wyrnzoen to assist in the defense. I am Solkwyb, and this is my comrade [name].

‘We were sent here on a mission to replace the sentries who perished this morning.’ English says they came to assist in the defense; French says they came to replace the sentries who died this morning.

Curious Gorge

From the guild, you say? Well, blow me down and call me a bogy! Had you told me sooner, I'd have introduced myself with proper respect.

  • FR Dis donc, [name], tu manies sacrément bien la hache ! ‘Say, [name], you handle the axe damn well!’ English says he would have introduced himself with proper respect; French praises how well you handle the axe.
  • DE Ah, ich bin auch ein Marodeur. ‘Ah, I'm a marauder too.’ English exclaims in surprise at hearing of the guild; German says he is a marauder too.
‘And you, my dear/my friend, pack a mighty swing with the axe.’ English says he would have introduced himself with proper respect; German praises your swing with the axe.
‘Then you're the same as me!’ English exclaims in surprise at hearing of the guild; Japanese says they are the same as him.
‘Still, [name]... you're strong!’ English says he would have introduced himself with proper respect; Japanese praises your strength.

You're [name], right? We've only just met, but I see in you a strength not found in ordinary women/men. What say you unleash the beast within and become a warrior with me?

Solkwyb

A warrior, you say!? So it was you I saw, brandishing battle techniques I had thought lost to the sands of time...

Curious Gorge

Lost? Gahaha! Perhaps in these parts. But where I come from, the way of the warrior is alive and well! My tribe has been handing them down for thousands of years.

‘Don't say such reckless things, it hasn't died out at all!’ English laughs it off as lost perhaps only here; Japanese scolds her for saying such a thing.

Yet our numbers dwindle with every new summer, and this is why I left the mountain where I was raised to come here. What say you, [name]? If you would walk the path of the warrior with me, seek me out at Hidden Falls.

Solkwyb

The warriors of old... We have all heard the tales, but never once did I dream that I would meet one in the flesh.

My memory is cloudy, but many years ago, it was said there was a young marauder in the Company of Heroes who would unleash crushing blows theretofore unseen by his comrades. When the Company disbanded, he vanished, never to be seen again─might that be this Curious Gorge?

I cannot vouch for the man's identity, but there can be no denying the display of strength we saw today, nor that he has taken a liking to you, [name]. This could be an opportunity for the ages. Hidden Falls, was it? Were I in your boots, I would head off there without delay.

Curious Gorge

I knew you would come, [name]. Let us begin.

Any woman/man can take up an axe and call herself/himself a marauder, but to become a true warrior, she/he must prove she/he can tame the inner beast that guides the blade.

‘To withstand this force you need sturdiness like a mountain, but with skill like yours you'll surely become a fine warrior!’ English says a true warrior must tame the inner beast; Japanese says one needs mountain-like sturdiness.

I witnessed your battle with the turtles, and I must say that I was impressed. You have proven yourself far more worthy of this than I could have imagined.

‘Where I come from, it's the custom to give one to people taking their first steps in the world of warriors.’ English says you proved yourself worthy of it; French says it is given by custom to beginners.
‘In my village it's the custom to give such a crystal to promising students.’ English says you proved yourself worthy of it; German says it is given by village custom.
‘Well then, first, following the custom of my village, take this!’ English says you proved yourself worthy of it; Japanese says it is given by village custom.

In your hands lies the Soul of the Warrior─a crystal within which the deeds of a thousand thousand warriors from history are recorded. For countless generations, the Soul has been passed on to those in my tribe who choose the path of the warrior, to guide them and aid them on their journey.

When your inner beast awakens, the runes will resonate, further empowering your will, and granting you such strength as you never thought possible.

Today, there is cause for celebration, my friend! For through you, I have ensured that my tribe's legacy will endure. Yes, it is for this day, this moment, that I came down from the mountain.

‘Warrior combat techniques are very old and the heirs of these traditions are increasingly rare.’ English celebrates the day he came down from the mountain for; French worries that heirs are increasingly rare.
‘The knowledge of the warriors is ancient and even in my village much of it has been forgotten.’ English celebrates the day he came down from the mountain for; German worries that much is forgotten in his village.
‘But... warrior techniques are very old, and even in my village the successors dwindle year by year.’ English celebrates the day he came down from the mountain for; Japanese worries that successors dwindle yearly.

Yet however earnestly I pursue my goal, I cannot deny the fear inside me that my mission will ultimately end in failure. For you see, while I style myself a warrior, the truth is that I left the mountains before my training was complete.

‘As for me, everything I know, I learned by reading the "Treatise of Warrior Techniques", an old collection of difficult texts handed down in my family for generations.’ English says he left before finishing his training; French says he learned all he knows by reading an old treatise.
‘Most of what I know about it I learned from an old text by the last grandmaster.’ English says he left before finishing his training; German says he learned most of it from an old text.
‘Even I only learned the history and techniques of the warrior by reading a difficult old text handed down in my clan.’ English says he left before finishing his training; Japanese says he learned from reading a difficult old text.

And while I carry with me the chronicles of my ancestors, detailing the ancient arts of war, I lack the ability to fully decipher the texts.

Yet, there may still be hope, for there is another who fled my village─one who shared my dream of passing on the teachings of the tribe, and can read the tome... My brother.

‘When I realized he had left, I set off after him... but I couldn't find his trail.’ English sees hope in his brother who can read the tome; French says he set off after his brother.
‘Shortly after, I grabbed the warrior text and ran after my brother into the wide world.’ English sees hope in his brother who can read the tome; German says he ran after his brother.
‘So I too hurried after my big brother... carrying the old text.’ English sees hope in his brother who can read the tome; Japanese says he hurried after his brother.

Without him, I fear there is little more I can teach you at this time. But that will not discourage me from continuing my studies of the chronicles, nor shake my belief that further secrets will soon reveal themselves to me.

Until then, I ask that you use the knowledge I've passed on to you, and continue your training. You must strive to harden your will so that it may endure the strain of future burdens. Good luck, my friend.

‘You need to toughen up so your body can bear these more advanced techniques!’ English asks you to harden your will for future burdens; French asks you to toughen your body for advanced techniques.
‘In the meantime you should steel your body so that you are fit enough for the demanding new techniques.’ English asks you to harden your will; German asks you to steel your body.
