Characters 6

Baderon is at the Drowning Wench and has not yet heard how bad the kobold trouble at the Stead is.
What you know from earlier quests 6
- #1 Coming to Limsa Lominsa: Baderon registers you at the Adventurers' Guild. He says the Calamity, a disaster, blurred everyone's memories, even of the heroes called Warriors of Light. He shields you from a suspicious Yellowjacket. He is the only son of Lodewicus, the guild's founder, and left home young.
- #10 Close to Home: Baderon sends you to touch the aetheryte, a travel crystal, to see Swozblaet
with an old
octant, and to visit the Arcanists' Guild. He blames the Calamity, or the ale, for his poor memory. He urges you to help people in need. - #11 Glory Days: Baderon laughs at the gift: he has hated
aurelia umbrellas since his days as a sellsword, a fighter for hire, when even salt and a campfire did not help. Few sellswords keep all their fingers, so he earned the respected nickname "Tenfingers". - #15 The Rats in the Wharf: Baderon pays you from a huge sack left by a stranger, who said the rats' scurrying noise was driving him mad. Baderon thinks the man was already a bit unwell in the head and doubts he can ever find peace.
- #19 On to Summerford: Staelwyrn
, the farm's owner, is Baderon's old mate. He runs it with mostly reformed pirates, trying to bring life back to soil the Calamity ruined. Baderon gave you a glowing recommendation and tells you to work hard and impress 'the old bastard'. - #22 Fool Me Once: Ancreta
says the Yellowjackets hire adventurers only through the Adventurers' Guild. The panel notes add that this means Baderon: official work for adventurers in Limsa goes through him.

Anaoc has seen the kobolds take up arms against the Stead, and he believes a fight with them cannot be avoided.
What you know from earlier quests 3
- #23 Cry Me a Liver: Anaoc sighs that he should not have sent Ancreta
, and apologizes for the trouble. He heard the New Worlders use fish livers as fertilizer, so he is trying toad livers. He says a farmer must keep learning; that is how his farm grew. - #24 Wool's Errand: Anaoc grumbles that the courier who usually takes the wool is lazing in bed. He asks you to bring the
sack of fleece to Weitzaren
, the miller up north who turns the Stead's wool into felt (thick pressed cloth). - #26 Kobolds and Indigents: Anaoc sighs that the kobolds are at it again. He says they leave their underground homes to wreak havoc on Lominsan land, and the farmers' livelihoods are at stake. Since neither side gives ground, he fears there may be no peaceful end.
- #23 Cry Me a Liver: Anaoc sighs that he should not have sent Ancreta

Skarnmhar is at the Red Rooster Stead, which is getting ready to strike back at the kobolds.
What you know from earlier quests 2
- #25 Flour Power: Skarnmhar is relieved to get the
flour back; eggs and milk are useless without it. But he worries that the Stead hires no guards, relies on kind adventurers, and is not ready if trouble comes again. - #26 Kobolds and Indigents: Skarnmhar sends you to help the coachman, Wahoy Mahoy
, who is plucky but alone. When you bring back three bags of clothes, Skarnmhar fears the restless kobolds are not done. He says war is at their doorstep and tells you to inform Anaoc
.

K'wabati waits by the southern mouth of Blind Iron Mines to show you where to set the bait for the kobolds.

What you know from earlier quests 3
- #2 Making a Name: Niniya sends you to collect herbs that might be illegal "dream flowers" and hand them in. They are only common
lavender: Niniya was playing a joke on you. Niniya says adventurers have met at this place for almost twenty years. - #10 Close to Home: Baderon
points Niniya out and suggests you hear what she has to say. Small errands like hers, he says, build your name as someone folk can trust, and then the jobs get harder and pay better. - #22 Fool Me Once: Niniya says the key lesson for new adventurers is to question everyone's motives. Niniya sends you to Ancreta
at the Eyes for work, but it is a second prank, after the quest Making a Name: Ancreta cannot hire you directly.

- Baderon
calls the pact a farce that only bought Limsa time. He is sure the kobolds hoard crystals to summon their god, Titan
. With no Company of Heroes to save them this time, he offers to ask the Yellowjackets to guard the Stead. - Anaoc
explains an old pact: the sea for Limsa, the underground for the kobolds. He says a pact means nothing if it ruins them, so they must strike first. He likes Arenlona's
bait plan, then asks you to seek Baderon's
help getting Yellowjacket guards. - Skarnmhar
happily gives you dodo meat for the bait and calls the deal a bargain: dead dodo for dead kobolds. He sends you to K'wabati
, south of Blind Iron Mines, who knows where to set it. - Arenlona
is glad Anaoc
has dropped his naive hope that the kobolds would calm down alone. Arenlona explains that kobold numbers have grown and food is short, so hunger drives their raids. The plan: set food as bait and let hunger undo them. - K'wabati
is glad the Stead has not "turned chicken". She tells you to find a good hiding spot and open the
crate of meat nearby. She says the kobolds follow their noses and see you too late.

Japanese
EN 'So, Anaoc
has at last abandoned the naive hope that the kobold menace would abate of its own accord.'
, 'A showdown with the kobolds? Old Anaoc
has made a bold call. Mind you, I too had thought it would have to be done someday. So long as we keep clearing new land, a clash was bound to come.'
Arenlona
blames the farm's own growth, not just the kobolds.
French
EN 'Long ago, our war-weary forebears struck a shortsighted peace with the kobolds: what lay beneath the sea was to be Limsa's, what lay underground was O'Ghomoro's.'
It states that "what is on the sea belongs to Limsa Lominsa, what is underground belongs to O'Ghomoro".'
So Limsa gets what is ON the sea, the waves, while the English gives it the seabed.
EN 'The mines of O'Ghomoro aren't enough for the native nuisances of northern Vylbrand anymore.' · 'Any barkeep can tell ye as rodents're wont to spread.'

t'a également expliqué que leur territoire se trouvait dans les environs du volcan O'Ghomoro, n'est-ce pas ?», 'Anaoc also told you that their territory lies around the O'Ghomoro volcano, didn't he?'
Anaoc

both make the kobolds' home a volcano. The English speaks only of its mines.

autrefois, n'existe plus, malheureusement.», 'The Brotherhood of Topmen, to whom we owe the feat of slaying Titan long ago, sadly no longer exists.'
Topmen are sailors who climb the rigging to work the sails. So «la Fratrie des gabiers», 'the Brotherhood of Topmen', is a seafaring name for the Company of Heroes.

Accepting the quest
The mines of O'Ghomoro aren't enough for the native nuisances of northern Vylbrand anymore. They've come to claim what is ours.
‘Yet the territory of these beastmen lies around O'Ghomoro, the volcano in the north of this island.’ Anaoc
and Baderon
both make the kobolds' home a volcano. The English speaks only of its mines. ‘The Kobolds call O'Ghomoro in the north of the island of Vylbrand their kingdom, but in truth they are nothing more than savages.’ German has Anaoc
sneer that the Kobolds claim a kingdom but are mere savages; English calls them nuisances.
Long ago, our war-weary forebears struck a shortsighted peace with the kobolds: what lay beneath the sea was to be Limsa's, what lay underground was O'Ghomoro's.
‘It states that "what is on the sea belongs to Limsa Lominsa, what is underground belongs to O'Ghomoro".’ So Limsa gets what is ON the sea, the waves, while the English gives it the seabed.
‘Still, our ancestors made an agreement with them. Limsa Lominsa was to have the treasures of the sea, and O'Ghomoro the treasures of the mountains.’ The old pact splits riches, not seabed and underground.
Yet what resolved one conflict created another, as the sea cannot fully feed, clothe, and shelter the children of land. Realizing this, the kobolds tacitly condoned the Lominsan settlement of La Noscea. We shared an unspoken agreement.
‘For a long time that went well, and the kobolds left the other peoples living in La Noscea in peace.’ English says the solution to one conflict created another; German says it went well for a long time.
But now, the kobolds aggressively assert their dominion, threatening our very survival.
‘We could all go on living in peace, if some of these beastmen had not begun venturing out of their mountain territory and attacking defenceless farms like ours.’ French blames only some Kobolds and says peace could otherwise continue; English blames the Kobolds as a whole.
Speak with Arenlona
.
So, Anaoc
has at last abandoned the naive hope that the kobold menace would abate of its own accord.
‘A showdown with the kobolds? Old Anaoc
has made a bold call. Mind you, I too had thought it would have to be done someday. So long as we keep clearing new land, a clash was bound to come.’ Arenlona
blames the farm's own growth, not just the kobolds. ‘We must not ignore the Kobolds any longer, otherwise they will regard us as helpless victims whom they can plunder as they please.’ German argues that ignoring the Kobolds makes the settlers look like helpless prey; English mocks Anaoc's
naive hope.
Their numbers have increased manifold as they expand southward. The food shortages spurred by overpopulation quicken the cycle of aggression.
‘There are many of them, but that is also the source of their weakness - food shortage.’ English says food shortages quicken their aggression; German calls the food shortage their weakness.
A common beggar would know better than to expect foodstuffs aboard a stagecoach bound for the Stead, but the filthy scamps grow desperate.
‘Unfortunately for them, it was a convoy of clothes and farm tools...’ English jokes a beggar wouldn't expect food on a Stead-bound coach; French says it carried clothes and tools.
‘They were probably after food when they attacked the caravan near the mine, but their loot was only tools and clothing - practical, but not exactly tasty.’ English jokes a beggar wouldn't expect food on a Stead-bound coach; German jokes the loot was practical, not tasty.
‘But the cargo from the city is nothing but farm tools and clothes... they must be stamping their feet right now.’ English jokes a beggar wouldn't expect food on a Stead-bound coach; Japanese says city cargo is just tools and clothes.
Speak with Anaoc
.
Set a bit of that in Blind Iron Mines and the little gluttons won't be able to resist.
Acquire the meat from Skarnmhar
.
I hand dead dodo to you, and you kill kobolds for me? A bargain if I ever heard one!
‘Has Anaoc
finally brought himself to do something about the kobold plague?’ English frames it as a trade, dead dodo for kobolds killed; German asks if Anaoc
finally resolved to act. ‘So Anaoc
has finally resolved to confront the kobolds!’ English frames it as a trade, dead dodo for kobolds killed; Japanese says Anaoc
finally resolved to confront the kobolds. ‘Right you are, I'll bring out the very best I've got.’ Japanese has him promise his very best meat; English jokes about trading dead dodo for dead kobolds.
Speak with K'wabati
at Blind Iron Mines.
Good to see the Red Rooster Stead hasn't turned chicken on us.
‘The people of the farm have finally decided to face those rotten Kobolds.’ English puns that the Red Rooster Stead hasn't turned chicken; French says the farm finally decided to face them.
‘Well, at last Gockelburg is standing up to the kobolds!’ English puns that the Red Rooster Stead hasn't turned chicken; German says Gockelburg finally fights back.
- JA …… ‘...I see, so the farm has finally risen up.’ English puns that the Red Rooster Stead hasn't turned chicken; Japanese says the farm has finally risen up.
- FR Je vais t'aider de mon mieux. ‘I'll help you as best I can.’ French has no rooster-chicken pun; she curses the Kobolds and offers her help outright.
- DE Die kleinen Plagegeister haben uns schon ganz schön zugesetzt. ‘The little pests have already given us quite a hard time.’ German has no chicken pun; she says it was about time and that the Kobolds plagued her people.
‘We'll help too, since we're fed up with them.’ Japanese has no chicken pun; she offers the miners' help because they are fed up with the Kobolds.
Once you've found a good hiding spot, open the
crate of meat nearby. The kobolds will follow their noses; by the time they see you, it'll be too late.
Speak with Anaoc
.
I don't know what we'd have done without you...which makes me wonder what we will do once you've gone.
‘Still, I think it would be better to strengthen the farm's protection.’ English wonders what they will do once you've gone; French thinks the farm's protection should be strengthened.
- DE Wir müssen die Verteidigung verstärken. ‘We must strengthen our defenses.’ English wonders what they will do once you've gone; German says they must strengthen their defenses.
‘It may be time to review the farm's security.’ English wonders what they will do once you've gone; Japanese says the farm's security may need reviewing.
It is no secret the Yellowjackets pay him heed. Mayhap he would put in a word, so that the Stead might procure their protection.
‘The old bar-counter shark has the Yellowjackets' ear and may be able to get them to send us reinforcements.’ With „der alte Thekenhai“, 'the old bar-counter shark', Anaoc
teases Baderon
, the innkeeper the Yellowjackets listen to. The English just says 'him'.
Speak with Baderon
at the Drowning Wench.
'Twas wishful thinkin' to believe the mine rats would stay put in O'Ghomoro.
‘So far into the south they have already spread, then.’ English scoffs that hoping they'd stay put was wishful thinking; German is surprised they have spread so far south.
‘I see... so their push south had gone that far.’ English scoffs that hoping they'd stay put was wishful thinking; Japanese is surprised their push south went so far.
Any barkeep can tell ye as rodents're wont to spread. This wave just comes sooner than reckoned.
‘The kobolds are a beast tribe that has always ruled the O'Ghomoro region in the north of the island of Vylbrand.’ English says any barkeep knows rodents spread; German says the kobolds have always ruled O'Ghomoro.
‘The kobolds are originally a beast tribe ruling the O'Ghomoro area in northern Vylbrand.’ English says any barkeep knows rodents spread; Japanese says the kobolds are a beast tribe ruling O'Ghomoro.
The pact was a farce─no 'andshake ever solved a blood feud. We just needed to lick our wounds a while is all.
Well, I s'pose they're all 'ealed up. Even the Maelstrom's taken note of 'ow the rascals run rampant.
Ye can be sure they're 'oardin' crystals to summon Titan
, an' gods 'elp us if they do.
. ‘The fact that these beastmen venture ever deeper south could indicate that they seek crystals to summon their Primal, Titan
.’ English is sure they're hoarding crystals for Titan
; French says their moves only could indicate it.
‘According to rumors, the kobolds are searching for crystals to summon their primal Titan
.’ English is sure they're hoarding crystals for Titan
; German presents it as a rumor. ‘Probably they want more crystals in order to summon their primal Titan
again.’ English is sure they're hoarding crystals for Titan
; Japanese says it is probably so.
Limsa'll look back on these petty thefts an' skirmishes as the good ol' times when that day comes, I tell ye!
‘If we let them, it probably won't be only the Limsans who pay the price...’ English says Limsa will recall these petty thefts as the good old times; French says not only Limsans will pay.
- DE Das könnte das Ende von Limsa Lominsa bedeuten! ‘That could mean the end of Limsa Lominsa!’ English says Limsa will recall these petty thefts as the good old times; German says it could mean Limsa's end.
‘If we let them do as they please and the kobolds' primal Titan
is revived... I can't imagine how much damage Limsa Lominsa would suffer.’ English says Limsa will recall these petty thefts as the good old times; Japanese says Limsa's damage is unimaginable.
An' there won't be a Company of 'Eroes around to answer our prayers this time, neither!
‘The Brotherhood of Topmen, to whom we owe the feat of slaying Titan
long ago, sadly no longer exists.’ Topmen are sailors who climb the rigging to work the sails. So «la Fratrie des gabiers», 'the Brotherhood of Topmen', is a seafaring name for the Company of Heroes.
‘The Army of Heroes, which only just managed to defeat Titan
at his last appearance, has unfortunately been disbanded.’ German says the heroes barely beat Titan
last time and were then disbanded; English only says they won't be around. ‘After all, the mercenaries who once defeated the savage god Titan
, the “Sea Heroes Brigade”, are no longer around...’ Japanese says they were mercenaries who once defeated Titan
, called the Sea Heroes Brigade; English only names the Company.
Well, an onze o' prevention's worth a ponze o' cure. I'll talk to the Yellowjackets an' see if they can't slow the kobolds' advance on the Stead.
