Journal
  1. Godwin of the Wood Wailers has a report that requires urgent delivery.
  2. Godwin has entrusted you with a classified report on recent happenings in the vicinity of Fallgourd Float. Deliver it to Vortefaurt of the Twin Adder with due haste.
  3. Godwin's report relayed sightings of a masked man that have stirred alarm in Fallgourd Float. Might the menacing figure described be an Ascian?
Hidden
Easter egg The 'usual banalities' in the report echo other Fallgourd Float side quests: a traveling merchant robbed by Qiqirn bandits is Gogolata's story at the Bobbing Cork.
Spoiler about later in the story

Foreshadowing Remember the masked man in Godwin's report. Even the journal wonders if he could be an Ascian.

Title reference The title is the saying 'no news is good news': if you hear nothing, nothing bad has happened. Godwin's report does carry news, and it is not good.

Godwin

Hail, adventurer. If you would not be averse to courier duty, I have a report that must be delivered to Florentel's Spire with all haste.

Mind you, this information is highly classified. I trust you to deliver it directly to the hands of Serpent Lieutenant Vortefaurt─without sneaking a peek for yourself.

  • DE Leider ist der Gute nicht besonders freundlich auf mich zu sprechen, seit ich ihn beim letzten Kartenspielabend in der Schenke bis aufs letzte Hemd ausgenommen habe. ‘Unfortunately the good fellow is not well disposed toward me since I cleaned him out to his last shirt at the last card night in the tavern.’ English stresses the report is highly classified; German says Godwin avoids Vortefaurt after fleecing him at cards.

Deliver the Fallgourd report to Vortefaurt.

Vortefaurt

These parts abound with particularly ferocious beasts. You'd do well to keep a wide berth, adventurer, lest I be left to clean your carcass off the forest floor.

A report from Godwin, you say? Very well, let us see... Traveling merchant waylaid by Qiqirn bandits, adventurer's hand bitten clean off by feral ziz, et cetera, et cetera... The usual banalities.

  • JA ジズ被害3件、キキルン族とイクサル族の被害が1件ずつ……。 ‘Three ziz incidents, and one incident each from the Qiqirn and the Ixal...’ English: a merchant robbed by Qiqirn, an adventurer's hand bitten off by ziz; Japanese: three ziz, one Qiqirn, one Ixal incident.

Hm? What's this? Sightings of a masked man...? “No casualties yet reported, but due vigilance should be exercised.”

Troubling news, indeed─these parts are perilous enough without some masked marauder stirring up trouble. Thank you, friend. Rest assured that the Adder will be on the lookout for this interloper.
