Hidden
Easter egg Faramund shares his name with a legendary early king of the Franks.
In-game text The horn's item text adds a small mystery: it is almost twice as long as a normal horn, and no one knows how it grew so big in one season.
Title reference The title plays on 'a helping hand', which means help or aid. Here the help comes from antelope horns, an old Ala Mhigan cure.

  • Buscarron

Buscarron is at his tavern, Buscarron's Druthers, where Meffrid hopes the horns can be ground into medicine.

What you know from earlier quests 8
    • #123 Spirited Away: Buscarron has heard talk of a sylph nearby, but cannot say if it is the elder. He says most folk cannot tell sylphs apart. He agrees to listen for news among his customers and invites you to stay.
    • #124 Druthers House Rules: Buscarron gives you a tub of cold water to cool the drunk down without violence. He allows loud drinking but no fighting at the Druthers. He welcomes all who pay and behave, even Duskwight Elezen, whom many treat as brigands.
    • #125 Never Forget: Buscarron found Teteroon, a Qiqirn, near death in the Shroud after the Calamity and nursed him back to health. Teteroon worked at the Druthers, then left for La Noscea. Buscarron wants his forgotten scarlet earring returned to him.
    • #129 Like Fine Wine: Buscarron is moved to tears by Teteroon's firewater and hides it by blaming someone cutting onions. He agrees to keep it a year, though he hates to wait. He invites you back then to share the bottle.
    • #130 Sylphish Concerns: When you report Garleans in the Twelveswood, Buscarron is shocked. He says imperials could never slip past the Wailers' spires alone. He suspects a Gridanian traitor guided them through.
    • #131 Nouveau Riche: Buscarron hears that Laurentius gave himself up to the Twin Adder. He tells you of Laurentius's hard past and hopes he gets a chance to make amends. Then he shares news: the sylph elder has been found.
    • #132 Into the Beast's Maw: Buscarron sends you to the Thousand Maws, an abandoned dungeon where Frixio was seen. When you return, he is relieved Frixio is safe, and he gives you a place of honor at the Druthers.
    • #133 A Simple Gift: Buscarron sends Azeyma rose oil as a sign of Gridania's wish to unite. He says the Calamity weakened the elementals of the wood, so Gridanians and sylphs must work and fight together to keep the Twelveswood safe.

  • Gallien: With the ointment from Buscarron, Gallien gets treatment and now has a much better chance to survive.
  • Faramund blesses you for the ointment and promises Gallien treatment at once. Faramund says keeping every man alive has weighed heavily on the captain, and thanks you for a great kindness.

Accepting the quest

Meffrid

I led my men to Quarrymill hoping to find refuge─instead we've found indifference. The cold-blooded bastards here want us out, and I can't oblige them soon enough. The problem is, some of mine aren't fit to travel─hells, Gallien can't even stand!

  • FR Je te jure, le cœur de ces personnes est plus froid que le sang qui coule dans les veines des Amalj'aa ! ‘I swear, the hearts of these people are colder than the blood flowing in the veins of the Amalj'aa!’ English calls the locals cold-blooded bastards; French says their hearts are colder than Amalj'aa blood.

As you well know, the people of this accursed hamlet won't help us. So, I've no choice but to turn to you, adventurer.

In my homeland, long antelope horn is a traditional remedy with poison-purging properties. If you could bring me, say, four horns, I'd forever be in your debt.

  • DE In meiner Heimat Ala Mhigo gibt es ein wirksames Mittel gegen Fieber, das aus gewonnen wird. ‘In my homeland of Ala Mhigo there is an effective remedy against fever that is obtained from ….’ English says the horn remedy purges poison; German says it is a remedy against fever.
  • JA 故郷アラミゴでは、万病の薬になると言われているんだ。 ‘In my homeland of Ala Mhigo, it is said to be a medicine for every illness.’ English says the horn remedy purges poison; Japanese says it is said to cure every illness.

Deliver the long antelope horns to Meffrid.

Meffrid

Ah, you're back! Tell me you've got four horns with you!

You're a godssend, adventurer! Praise Rhalgr there's at least one woman/man in this place who gives a damn. Now we just need to find a way to prepare them...

You wouldn't happen to know a man named Buscarron, would you? Some comrades of mine told me about him once. They said he never turns away folk in need, no matter where they're from.

Seeing as he runs a tavern, he's like to have the tools to make the medicine. I'd be grateful if you could take the horns over to him to have them ground down. When that's done, bring the powder back, and give it to Faramund here. Godsspeed.

Deliver antelope horns to Buscarron.

Buscarron

Ah, [name], ever a sight for sore eyes! How fares the adventuring? Rolling in the coin like there's no tomorrow, no doubt! ...Hm? You've got something to show me?

  • FR Remarquez, il serait temps que je voie un peu la couleur de vos gils ! ‘Mind you, it's about time I saw a bit of the color of your gil!’ English jokes the adventurer must be rich; French teases that it is about time the adventurer spent some gil there.

Well, these look like good old antelope horns. Need them ground down to make a medicine, you say?

Here's a better idea: I'll give you some of the stuff I have in my stores. Aye, I'm no stranger to the remedy. An Ala Mhigan friend once used it to treat my festering wound, years and years ago. Safe to say he saved my life.

What's that? This is for an Ala Mhigan soldier in Quarrymill? Heh, so it comes full circle... Well, I hope it helps the poor sod as needs it. Oh, and don't worry your little head off about payment─I still owe you a deal more than you owe me, I reckon.

Deliver the herbal ointment to Faramund.

Faramund

It is well to see you returned. Have you the medicine for our brother?

Gods bless you, adventurer! I'll see that Gallien receives treatment at once!

Hopefully, this will allow the captain to rest easier. It has been a terrible burden on him, trying to keep every man alive. You've done us a great kindness, friend.

  • FR Le pauvre s'en veut énormément de nous avoir conduits jusqu'ici. ‘The poor man blames himself terribly for having led us here.’ English says keeping every man alive burdened him; French says he blames himself for leading them here.
  • DE Dem Hauptmann fällt sicher ein ganzer Lehmgolem vom Herzen. ‘Surely a whole clay golem will fall from the heart of the captain.’ English says the captain can rest easier; German jokes that a whole clay golem falls from his heart.
